Title: Administration of Medications to Students
Vote to pass a bill that amends regulations regarding the administration of prescription and nonprescription medication to students, effective March 1, 2011.
-Authorizes school bus drivers, administrators, employees, and volunteers to administer nonprescription or prescription drugs to students without Department of Public Instruction-approved training, whereas existing law required such training (Sec. 13).
-Repeals the requirement that an over-the-counter drug administered to a student be supplied by the student's parent or guardian in the original manufacturer's package which lists the ingredients and recommended therapeutic dose (Sec. 8).
-Repeals the requirement that a prescription drug administered to a student be supplied by the student's parent or guardian in the original pharmacy-labeled package which includes the student's name, doctor, dose, and directions for use (Sec. 10).
-This act is effective March 1, 2011 (Sec. 17).
