Vote to adopt a conference report that bans texting while driving, beginning September 1, 2011.
- Prohibits an operator of a motor vehicle from using a hand-held wireless communication device to read, write, or send a text-based communication while the vehicle is moving (Sec. 9).
- Defines a "text-based communication" as including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 8):
- Text messages;
- Instant messages; and
- E-mails.
