Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression in a variety of situations, effective October 1, 2011.

Highlights:

• Prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression in certain situations including, but not limited to, the following (Secs. 3-36):
• Employment;
• The sale or rental of property;
• Accommodation in public housing;
• Accommodation in any place of public accommodation, resort or amusement;
• Enrollment in public schools and participation in school activities;
• Enrollment in public universities; -Access to public libraries;
• Consideration for loans or other financial assistance;
• Receipt of benefits through state-administered programs; and
• Membership in golf country clubs.

• Defines "gender identity or expression" as a person's gender-related identity, appearance, or behavior, whether or not that identity, appearance, or behavior is different from that associated with the person's physiology or assigned sex at birth (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that gender-related identity can be shown by providing evidence in various ways, including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):
• Medical history;
• Care or treatment of the gender-related identity;
• "Consistent and uniform assertion" of the gender-related identity; or
• Any other evidence showing that the identity is "sincerely" held and part of the individual's "core identity."

• This act is effective October 1, 2011 (Sec. 37).
