Title: In-State College Tuition for Undocumented Immigrants

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes students, including undocumented immigrants, who meet certain criteria to pay in-state tuition at California state universities and community colleges.

Highlights:
-Authorizes students who meet all of the following requirements to pay in-state tuition at California state universities and community colleges (Sec. 2):
    -Secondary school attendance in California for 3 or more years, with at least 1 year at a California high school; -Graduation from a California secondary school; and -Registration as an entering student at, or current enrollment at, an accredited higher education institution in California not earlier than the fall semester of the 2001-2002 academic year.
-Authorizes students who are undocumented immigrants and who meet all of the requirements above to pay in-state tuition, provided that the student has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file an application as soon as he or she is eligible to do so (Sec. 2). -Authorizes students who qualify for in-state tuition to apply for, and participate in, all student financial aid programs administered by the State of California to the extent permitted by federal law (Sec. 4). -This act is effective July 1, 2012 (Sec. 5).
