The bill also lowers the age from 14 to 12 for a firearm license to hunt deer, bear, or elk, but a child under 14 can only hunt for such animals on private property and when accompanied by a parent, guardian, or a person authorized by a parent or by a guardian who is at least 18 years old.
Legislation - Bill Passed (House) (86-17) - March 21, 2006 (Key vote)
Title: Hunting License Program and Firearms Age Restriction
Vote to pass a bill that allows a minor child to hunt if they are accompanied by a parent, guardian or someone authorized by the parent or guardian who is 17 years or older and has a hunting license or if the child is on the parent or guardians personal residence. Minor children under the age of 14 are only allowed to hunt on private property and under the supervision of a parent or guardian. The bill also reduces the minimum age to obtain a deer, bear or elk hunting license from 14 years of age to 12 years of age as long as a parent or legal guardian applies for the license on behalf of the child, and establishes the Apprentice Hunting License Program to take effect on March 1, 2007.
