Title: Access to Postsecondary Education
Vote to pass a bill that expands the qualifications for students seeking in-state college tuition, effective July 1, 2011.
- Authorizes an undocumented immigrant to be classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes if the individual meets all of the following conditions (Sec. 1):
- Resides in the state;
- Attended any educational institution in the state and completed at least four years of high school level education in the state;
- Graduated from a high school in the state, or the equivalent thereof; and
- Is registered as an entering student, or is enrolled at a public institution of higher education in the state.
- Specifies that if an individual fulfilling the above requirements is without legal immigration status, that individual must file an affidavit with such institution of higher education stating that he or she has filed an application to legalize his or her immigration status, or will file such an application as soon as he or she is eligible (Sec. 1).
