Vote to pass a bill that prohibits all health insurance plans in the state of Nebraska from covering elective abortions, effective January 1, 2012.
Highlights:
-Prohibits any health insurance plan offered through a health insurance exchange in the state of Nebraska from covering abortions (Sec. 3).
-Exempts abortions performed in order to prevent the death of the woman from the provisions of this act, as well as coverage for medical complications arising from an abortion (Sec. 3).
-Prohibits any health insurer regulated by the state from covering elective abortions, except through an optional rider for which a premium is paid solely by the insured (Sec. 3).
-Defines "elective abortion" as an abortion performed for any reason other than to prevent the death of the woman upon whom the abortion is performed (Sec. 3).
-Prohibits health insurers from providing any incentive or discount to an insured if the insured elects to have an abortion (Sec. 3).
-This act is effective January 1, 2012 (Sec. 5).
