Title: Prohibiting Discriminatory Employment Practices Based On Gender or Expression

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discriminatory employment practices based upon gender identity or expression.

Highlights:
  • Defines "gender identity or expression" as a gender-related identity, expression, appearance, or behavior of a person regardless of their assigned sex at birth (Sec. 1). 
  • Establishes that it is unlawful practice for an employer or an employment agency to fail or refuse to hire, or otherwise to discriminate against any person with respect to the person's gender identity or expression (Sec. 7). 
  • Authorizes employers to require employees to adhere to reasonable workplace appearance, grooming, and dress standards so long as such requirements allow an employee to appear, groom and dress consistent with the employee's gender identity or expression (Sec. 9). 
  • Specifies that no employer, employment agency, or labor organization is required to grant preferential treatment to any gender identity or expression (Sec. 11). 
  • Expands the powers of the Nevada Equal Rights Commission to include the investigation of tensions, practices of discrimination and acts of prejudice against any person or group because of race, color, creed, sex, age, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin or ancestry (Sec. 15).
