Title: Increasing Retirement Contributions for Public Employees

Vote to adopt a conference report that that increases the employee retirement contribution rate for various employees of state agencies, public schools, colleges, and universities.

Highlights:

  • Increases the employee retirement contribution rate as follows (Sec. 1):
    • For judges, from 6 percent to 8.25 percent of the employee's salary beginning on October 1, 2011, and to 8.5 percent, beginning October 1, 2012;
    • For state policemen, from 7 percent to 10 percent of the employee's salary beginning on October 1, 2011;
    • For firefighters, law enforcement officers and correctional officers, from 6 percent to 8.25 percent beginning October 1, 2011, and to 8.5 percent, beginning October 1, 2012; and

Vote to pass a bill that increases retirement contribution rates for certain public employees, beginning May 1, 2011.

Highlights:

  • Increases the retirement contribution rates for state justices, judges, correctional officers, firefighters, and law enforcement officers, except for state police officers, from 6 percent of their salaries to the following (Sec. 1):
    • 7.2 percent of their salaries beginning May 1, 2011;
    • 8.4 percent of their salaries beginning October 1, 2011; and
    • 9 percent of their salaries beginning October 1, 2012.
  • Increases the retirement contribution rates for public employees, except for state police officers, from 5 percent of their salaries to the following (Sec. 1):
