Title: Primary Elections

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires voters to vote only in the primary election of the party with which they are affiliated.

Highlights:

  • Requires separate primary election ballots for each political party (Sec. 7).
  • Requires all voters to select a party affiliation at the time of registration, or select "unaffiliated" (Sec. 3).
  • Requires voters to vote only in the primary election of the party with which they are affiliated (Sec. 2).
  • Specifies that political parties may elect to allow unaffiliated voters to vote in that party's primary election (Sec. 2).
  • Requires an unaffiliated voter to choose a primary in which he or she would like to vote and then notify a poll worker, who will record the choice, and that if the voter does not wish to vote in a primary election for a party that has elected to allow unaffiliated voters, those voters must vote using a non-partisan ballot (Secs. 2 & 3).
