Vote to pass a bill that limits certain appropriations to local governments that do not participate in the Secure Communities Initiative to limit the prohibited trafficking and presence of undocumented immigrants.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a local government that violates this legislation from receiving its allocation from gross state cigarette tax revenues, unless the local government dedicates such funds to veterans services (Sec. 2).
  • Requires the role of director to include, but not be limited to, the following duties (Sec. 3):
    • Supervise and direct the administration and all activities of the bureau;
    • Establish rules, regulations, and procedures, not inconsistent with the law, of the bureau and its personnel; and
    • Implement the United States Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Secure Communities Initiative, as prescribed by the state association that represents county sheriffs.
  • Specifies that this legislation shall take effect immediately upon passage; Section two shall take effect 30 days after the US department of homeland security's immigration and customs enforcement agency's secure communities initiative is available to every local government within the state of Colorado (Sec. 4).
