Title: Sexual Abuse Prosecution Bill

Vote to adopt a conference report that allows victims of sexual abuse to bypass the statue of limitations and bring a lawsuit against the individual and/or organization that is responsible for their abuse, provided that the abuse occurred July 1, 1971 or later. The bill specifies that victims will have exactly one year beginning January 1, 2007, to bring a lawsuit against the perpetrator. The bill also states that compensation for damages is capped at $150,000 for all retroactive cases, while future cases will not have a damages cap, except when the defendant is a public organization, for which the $150,000 cap on damages will remain.

Victims will have 1 year from the date the bill is enacted to bring a lawsuit against the perpetrator. Reimbursement for damages will be capped at $150,000 for all retroactive cases, while future cases will not be capped, except when the defendant is a public organization, for which the $150,000 cap on damages will remain. Civil Settlements are required to release publicly, the name of accused, the sexual actions taken, and the current residence of the accused.
