Title: Repeals Statewide Preschool Program
Vote to pass a bill that repeals the statewide preschool program for 4 year old children and establishes scholarships for preschool programs, effective July 1, 2011.
- Defines "preschool scholarship" as state funding appropriated to school districts to pay tuition for eligible children enrolled in preschool programs (Sec. 9).
- Requires families with children enrolled in approved preschool programs to pay tuition based on income and the most current sliding tuition scale developed by the Department of Education (Sec. 11).
- Requires families to have income at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level to qualify for the new preschool program scholarships (Sec. 11).
