Title: Rating System for Public Schools

Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Education to assign a letter grade to each public school based on aspects of its students' performance.

Highlights:

  • Requires the Department of Education to annually assign a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F based on factors including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 4):
    • Student proficiency, as measured by scores on standardized tests;
    • Growth in reading and mathematics;
    • For high schools, SAT and ACT scores; and
    • For high schools, the high school graduation rate.
  • Authorizes parents of students enrolled in schools rated F for 2 of the last 4 years to transfer the student to any public school in the state or to have the student continue schooling by means of distance learning (Sec. 4).
