Vote to pass a bill that establishes a commission to review the costs and benefits of state mandates on insurance, effective Feb. 1, 2012.

Highlights:

• Establishes the Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Health Insurance Benefits in order to advise the governor and legislature of Georgia on the social and financial impact of the current and proposed state mandate benefits on insurance providers (Sec. 1).

• Requires the advisory commission to (Sec. 1):
• Establish and maintain a system, along with the Department of Insurance, of data collection that would help assess the impact of mandated benefits and providers, including information such as costs to employers and insurers, impact of treatment, cost savings in the health care system, number of providers, and other data that seems appropriate;
• Advise and assist the Department of Insurance on issues relating to mandated insurance benefits and provider regulations;
• Provide assessments of proposed and existing mandated benefits and providers, as well as other studies of mandated benefits and provider issues that are requested by the state legislature; and
