Title: Repeal on the Number of Charter Schools Allowed
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the North Carolina Public Charter School Commission and removes the cap on charter schools.
- -2 members appointed by the Governor;
-4 members appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate;
-4 members appointed by the General Assembly upon recommendation by the Speaker of the House; and
-The Superintendent of Public Instruction or the Superintendent's designee.
- -Determine the schedule and deadlines for the submission of charter school applicants;
-Provide technical assistance to charter school applicants and charter schools;
-Adopt policies regarding all aspects of charter school operations and monitor the operation of charter schools;
-Oversee the process for accepting and approving applications and make final approval of charter applicants;
-Take any actions regarding renewals, nonrenewals, and revocation of charters; and
-Prepare an annual report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee of the General Assembly.
