Vote to override a veto of a bill that proposes to amend the Public School Code Act of 1949.

Highlights:

-Requires that each school district submit to the Secretary of Education an annual financial report no later than the 31st day of October (Sec. 1). -Defines the "National Board for Professional Teaching Standards" (NBPTS) as an independent nonprofit to establish high teaching standards and to assess and certify teachers who meet those standards (Sec. 5). -Requires the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to do the following, to the extent that funds are available (Sec. 5):

    -Pay for all, or a portion of, NBPTS assessment fees for eligible teachers; and -Reimburse school districts for all, or a portion of, substitute fees for each day the eligible teacher was preparing for NBPTS certification.
-Requires teachers who have had NBPTS assessment fees paid, to complete certification or repay the fees. Additionally, teachers who have had fees paid and have received certification must serve as a teacher or administrator in Pennsylvania for at least 3 years or repay fees (Sec. 5).

NOTE: A SIMPLE MAJORITY IS REQUIRED TO OVERRIDE A GOVERNOR'S VETO.
