Title: Evacuee Requirements for Running for Office

Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that establishes a deadline for the exemption from residency requirements for individuals running for office and involuntarily displaced by an official state of emergency equal to 1 year following the declared state of emergency.

Highlights:

-Expands the information that must be included in the certificate that must be included with the notice of candidacy, except for candidates for the U.S. House or U.S. Senate, to include certification that for each of the previous 5 tax years (Sec. 1):

    -The candidate has filed his or her federal and state income tax returns; -The candidate has filed for an extension of time for filing either his federal or state income tax return or both; or -The candidate was not required to file either a federal or state income tax return.
-Expands the grounds for an action objecting to the candidacy of an individual to include falsifying his or her verification of residence in accordance with the new tax return policy established by this Act (Sec. 1).

NOTE: LEGISLATION REQUIRES AN AFFIRMATIVE VOTE OF A MAJORITY OF MEMBERS OF THE CHAMBER IN ORDER TO PASS.
