Title: Authorizing Home School Student Athletic Participation
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes students in a home study program approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to participate in interscholastic athletic activity at a high school that is a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSA).
- -The student shall be in compliance with the same residency or attendance zone requirements as other students participating in the activity;
-The student shall meet academic standards required of other students participating in the activity, and requires students to submit copies of his or her transcripts to prove he or she is in compliance with these requirements;
-The student shall meet insurance coverage requirements applicable to student's at the school;
-The student shall meet all other standards and requirements applicable to other student's participating in the athletic event, other than requirements that the student be enrolled in or attend the school;
-The student shall submit documentation from the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education that the student is in a home study program approved by the Board;
-The student's participation shall be approved by the principal of the school providing the athletic activity; and
-The student's parent or legal guardian shall make a written request for the student to participate in the activity within 11 days of the start of the school year.
