Title: Restrictions on Beverages Sold In Schools

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the sale of sports drinks in schools.

Highlights:

-Prohibits the sale of artificially sweetened sports drinks in middle, junior, and high schools from one half hour before school begins to one half hour after school ends (Sec 1). -Limits the beverages sold in middle, junior, and high schools to the following (Sec 2):

    -Fruit based drinks that are composed of no less than fifty percent fruit juice and have no added sweetener; -Vegetable based drinks that are composed of no less than fifty percent vegetable juice and have no added sweetener; -Drinking water with no added sweetener; -2 percent fat milk, 1 percent fat milk, nonfat milk, soy milk, rice milk, and other nondairy milk; and -An electrolyte replacement beverage that contains no more than forty-two grams of added sweetener per twenty ounce serving prior to one-half hour before school and after one-half hour after school.
-Authorizes the sale and purchase of beverages that do not comply with this policy during school-sponsored events that occur more than one half hour after the end of the school day (Sec 2).
