Vote to pass a bill that increases the tax on rent received for occupancy of any room or rooms in a hotel or lodging house from 12 percent to 15 percent beginning January 1, 2011.

Highlights:
-Requires the Commissioner of Revenue Services to appropriate 20 percent of the revenue derived from the tax on rent received for occupancy of any room or rooms in a hotel or lodging house and allocate as follows (Sec. 2): -1/3 for the municipality in which the hotel or lodging house paying the tax is located; and -2/3 for the regional hotel tax account established by this Act, which shall be distributed by the Office of Policy and Management on a pro rata basis to regional planning organizations to promote property tax reductions through regionalism initiatives, including, but not limited to, regional economic development and educational cooperative programs and agreements.
