Title: Domestic Violence Law Amendments

Vote to pass a bill that provides assistance to victims of domestic violence.

Highlights:

-Requires a $20 surcharge be paid to the registrar for each marriage license with $1 going to the registrar for administrative costs and $19 going to shelter services for victims of household abuse and for rape crisis services (Sec. 1). -Prohibits the retention of funds by the Office of Policy and Management, Commissioner of Social Services, or the Commissioner of Public Health for administrative purposes (Sec. 1). -Authorizes that for rental agreements entered into or renewed after December 31, 2010, tenants who are victims of family violence who believe vacating the dwelling unit to be necessary due to a fear for personal safety, to terminate their rental agreements without penalty provided that they give the landlord at least 30 days notice (Sec. 2). -Requires the Commissioner of Public Health to develop and issue, not later than June 30, 2012, a televised public service announcement aimed at preventing teen dating violence and family violence (Sec. 3).
