Title: Death Penalty Cost Study
Vote on a motion to advance to enrollment and review a bill that requires the Community Corrections Council to supervise a study of the costs of administering the death penalty in the state of Nebraska to be completed by December 1, 2010.
-Requires the State Treasurer to transfer up to $50,000 from the Commission on Public Advocacy Operations Cash Fund to the Community Corrections Uniform Data Analysis Cash Fund in fiscal year 2010-2011 to carry out the study (Sec. 4). -Specifies that it is the intent of the Legislature that the Community Corrections Council use the College of Public Affairs and Community Service of the University of Nebraska at Omaha to coordinate and conduct the study (Sec. 1). -Requires the study to examine the direct and indirect costs of death penalty and non-death penalty sentences for first degree murder, including the costs incurred by the following (Sec. 2):
