Title: Classroom Size Limitation Amendments

Vote to pass a joint resolution that submits a constitutional amendment to the voters that amends classroom size requirements for public schools beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.

Highlights:
-Amends the classroom size limitation for students in prekindergarten through grade 3 as follows (Sec.1):
    -Existing law: maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 18; and -New law: the average number of students per classroom shall not exceed 18, and the maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 21.
-Amends the classroom size limitation for students in grades 4 through 8 as follows (Sec. 1):
    -Existing law: maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 22; and -New law: the average number of students per classroom shall not exceed 22, and the maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 27.
-Amends the classroom size limitation for students in grades 9 through 12 as follows (Sec. 1):
    -Existing law: maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 25; and -New law: the average number of students per classroom shall not exceed 25, and the maximum number of students per classroom shall not exceed 30.
-Expands the exemption from classroom size limitations to include virtual classes (Sec. 1). -Sen. Nan Rich, listed as not voting, voted "Nay" after the roll call.
