Title: Moving Back Primary Dates and Filing Deadlines

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that changes the dates of Kentucky primary elections and candidate filing deadlines.

Highlights:

-Changes the date of Kentucky primaries so that they shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in August of each year, rather than the first Tuesday after the third Monday in May (Sec. 9). -Changes the deadline for candidates to file their nomination papers with the Secretary of state so that the filing must occur no later than the last Tuesday in April preceding the day fixed by law for holding the primary, rather than the last Tuesday in January preceding the day fixed by law for holding the primary (Sec. 9). -This is a substitute bill sponsored by the Senate Committee on State and Local Governments.

NOTE: THIS IS A SUBSTITUTE BILL, MEANING THE LANGUAGE OF THE ORIGINAL BILL HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE DEGREE TO WHICH THE SUBSTITUTE BILL TEXT DIFFERS FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE TEXT CAN VARY GREATLY.
