Title: Increase in Fees for Traffic Violations

Vote to pass a bill that establishes or raises fines for certain traffic violations.

Highlights:

-Increases the filing and docketing fee in the following cases (Sec. 18):

    -For criminal cases from $100 to $120; -For simple misdemeanors from $60 to $70; -For court costs "in scheduled violation cases where a court appearance is required" from $60 to $70; and -For court costs "in scheduled violation cases where a court appearance is not required" from $60 to $70.
-Increases the fines for violations of speed limits under 55 mph (Sec. 19):
    -From $10 to $20 for speeding more than 5 mph over the limit; -From $20 to $40 for speeding more than 5 but no more than 10 mph over the limit; -From $30 to $50 for speeding more than 10 but no more than 15 mph over the limit; -From $40 to $60 for speeding more than 15 but no more than 20 mph over the limit; and -From $40 to $60 plus $2 for each mile over 20 mph over the limit.
-Increases the fines for violations of speed limits over 55 mph (Sec. 19):
    -From $20 to $30 for speeding no more than 5 mph over the limit; -From $40 to $60 for speeding more than 5 but no more than 10 mph over the limit; -From $60 to $80 for speeding more than 10 but no more than 15 mph over the limit; -From $80 to $100 for speeding more than 15 but no more than 20 mph over the limit; and -From $90 to $110 plus $5 for each mile over 20 mph over the limit.
-Declares a fine of $100 for violations of reduction of speed when (Sec. 19):
    -Approaching and passing a person walking in the traveled portion of the public highway; -Approaching and passing an animal which is being led, ridden, or driven upon a public highway; -Approaching and traversing a crossing or intersection of public highways, or a bridge, sharp turn, curve, or steep descent, in a public highway; -Approaching and passing an emergency warning device displayed or an emergency vehicle displaying a revolving or flashing light; -Approaching and passing a slow moving vehicle displaying a reflective device; and -Approaching and passing through a sign posted roadwork zone on the public highway.
-Establishes a fine of $110 for the transportation of hazardous materials that are not consistent with federal regulations or for the transportation of cargo that is not "securely covered as to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking, or otherwise escaping or its load covering from dropping from the vehicle" (Sec. 19). -Increases the fee from $25 to $75 for seatbelt violations (Sec. 19). -Establishes a fine of $75 dollars for failure to follow "stop' or "yield' signs (Sec. 19).
