Title: Referendum on Constitutional Convention

Vote on a motion to table a joint resolution that calls for a special statewide election to be held during the November 2010 general election to determine whether a convention shall be held to revise and amend the Constitution of Alabama.
Highlights:
-Requires the election of delegates to the convention to take place during a special election in June 2012 if a majority of the voters approve of holding a convention to revise and amend the Constitution of Alabama (Sec. 1).
-Requires two delegates to be elected from each Alabama House of Representatives district for a total of 210 delegates to the constitutional convention, if approved (Sec. 1).
-Prohibits a candidate for delegate from accepting a campaign contribution, including any "in-kind" contribution, exceeding $100 from any one source, excluding donations made by the candidate to his or her own campaign, and limits allowed contributors to citizens of Alabama (Sec. 1).
-Requires the convention, if approved, to convene in the old chambers of the House of Representatives in the State Capitol building in Montgomery at 12 pm on the first Monday in October 2012 (Sec. 1).
-Requires that the newly-framed constitution or proposals be put to a vote by the voters in the 2014 general election (Sec. 1).
-Specifies that, if approved by voters, the new constitution or proposals shall go into effect on January 1, 2015 (Sec. 1).
