Title: School Year Beginning and Ending Limitations
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the school year from beginning before the Tuesday after Labor Day or the first Monday in September, or ending after June 10 of the following year, beginning with the 2012 -- 2013 school year.
- Exempts the following schools from the bill (Sec. 1):
- Year-round schools that have a calendar in which a break between instructional days does not exceed 6 weeks;
- Schools with a calendar of quarters; and
- Schools that coordinate the school's calendar with that of a postsecondary educational institution.
- Authorizes school boards to end a school year after June 10 if they hold a public hearing on the issue and and a majority of the members vote for an ending date for that school year (Sec. 1).
