Vote to pass a joint resolution that submits a constitutional amendment to the voters that establishes a seven-member redistricting commission, including two members of the minority party in the Legislature, that will be in charge of adopting redistricting plans for state and federal legislative districts after the census is taken.

Highlights:

-Repeals existing law requiring the Ohio Apportionment Board be in charge of adopting redistricting plans, of which consisted of the following members (Sec. 1):

-Governor; -State Auditor; -Secretary of State; -One member appointed by the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate; and -One member appointed by legislative leaders in the House of Representatives and Senate of the largest political party of which the Speaker of the House of Representatives is not a member.

-Establishes the Ohio Redistricting Commission to be in charge of adopting redistricting plans, of which consists of the following (Sec. 1):

-Governor; -State Auditor; -Secretary of State; -Speaker of the House of Representatives; -Legislative leader of the largest political party in the House of Representatives of which the Speaker of the House of Representatives is not a member; -President of the Senate; and -Legislative leader of the largest political party in the Senate of which the President of the Senate of is not a member.

-Requires an affirmative vote from five members of the Commission, including the two members of the minority party, in order to adopt a redistricting plan (Sec. 1). -Requires a simple majority to vote for any action other than the adoption of a redistricting plan (Sec. 1). -Requires all meetings of the Commission to be open to the public (Sec. 1).
